Birds with my new Tamron 150-600mm Lens

I recently purchased the Tamron 150-600mm zoom lens for bird photography. As much as I like my Nikon 70-300mm lens, it just doesn't have the extra reach I desire.

I took these photos today (9 January 2015). I listed the EXIF information below each photo. Also, all of these were hand-held, although I was sitting in a chair and proping my left arm on the arm rest for support for some of these shots.

So far I'm pleased with the lens, although it's very heavy to hold.

I think this is a great lens for bird photography.

Conowingo Bald Eagles

27 December 2014:

Today Tony and I drove to the Conowingo dam (located on the Susquehanna River near the town of Conowingo, MDso I could photograph bald eagles.  This is a place that many photographers visit.  It's about an hour, 40 minute drive from where we live.

I've been wanting a longer zoom lens for a while, and after today (I used my Nikon D7000 and Nikon 70-300mm lens), I DEFINITELY want a longer zoom. Most likely it will be the new Tamron 150-600mm lens.

These shots are not perfect (and they are cropped), as most of the birds were quite far away, but I was thrilled to be able to see these incredible birds and photograph them. There were probably a dozen or so of them, along with other types of birds.

Not quite in focus, I did capture this bald eagle plucking a fish out of the water.

I'm looking forward to going back once I get my new lens.

Late Summer Hummingbirds

I took these photos last week. I don't believe they're 'my' hummingbirds, but ones that are passing through as they head south for the winter.

Hummingbird

I recently discovered that one of the hummingbirds in my yard has been feeding on my Thai basil plant. Not the clearest shots, as he was moving very quickly.

He also enjoyed a sunflower:

Sunflowers!

It's a beautiful day today so I took a bunch of sunflower photos. I have two areas, in which I have the flowers - in my garden and near the deck.

Enjoy!
